To become fully certified you do need to teach a beginner course, so the following weekend (Feb 25, 26) Coast River Kayak is offering a beginner course at a reduced rate of $75/person to enable Instructor course participants to complete the process in 2 weekends (there is no additional cost for the second weekend).

Yes, we are still on the water! We do not have much on the schedule right now but the weather is beautiful so if you would like to go out for a tour let us know and we will set it up for you. Also, the Eagles are back in Brackendale so stay tuned for Eagle Tours coming in the new year.
Kayak Instructor 2 / Leader 2 – River
Course Dates: Feb 17-19
Followed the next weekend by a beginner course to do your practical teaching to get fully certified. (optional) No cost to this portion.
Target Audience: Club, school, or commercial instructors
Duration: Three days (21 hours)
Prerequisites: CanoeKayak BC member. Minimum age 16 years. Class III (intermediate) whitewater paddling skills. Active instructors must have Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
Environment: Instructing beginner and novice groups on Class I-II whitewater
Course Outline:
* NCCP overview
* Equipment
* Risk management
* Teaching methodology
* Site selection
* Group management and communication
* Session planning
* Technical skills; basic eddy turns (in and out), boat ferrying, s-turns, surfing, back ferrying, the moving water roll and pivots.
* Common paddling injuries
* Basic rescue techniques
* Games and exercises
* Professional issues and administration

Dates: February 25-26
This course is being offered at a discounted rate because it is being used to finish off the instructor training from the weekend before. So you will have two Instructor trainers as well as some level two instructor candidates. This is a great learning environment.
Learn to White Water Kayak
This two day course is designed to introduce you to the sport of White Water Kayaking in a small group of no more than six people.
The focus is to learn the basics of kayaking in a fun and safe environment. Some of the topics we will cover include:
* Equipment, how to choose it and set it up to work for you
* Strokes for you to get around as efficiently as possible
* River safety
* Surfing
If you have ever thought you would like to try white water kayaking, this is the course for you!
No paddling experience required.
Equipment supplied: Kayak, Paddle, PFD, Wet Suit, Spray Skirt, Dry Top, helmet.
Space is limited to 6 participants.
